metaeeter was a series of live-streamed “deep hangouts” airing throughout spring 2023, first one aired on the 26th of January. The concept was simple: invite guests who have some connection to the performing arts, set up a camera, and just let things unfold naturally. There was no script, just a timeline that started with discomfort, moved to comfort, and ended with everyone feeling really at ease (or not!). The setting worked like a social experiment to see who would take control, who would get awkward, and what would happen in front of a live audience that could comment in real-time. Some streams were boring, others became chaotic, and at times, people had to post public apologies afterward. It was an unpredictable project that explored how we interact with each other online and in real life.

why are we doing this metaeeter then? well, because we can. we have a room and our own local twitchy thing. there is also a smoking corner. ad-free, ticket-free. accessible from anywhere.
*meta is meta both in english and estonian. eeter – that’s a different story. eeter is both ether (one consumes it to acquire distorted thinking, euphoria, and visual/auditory hallucinations) and broadcast (TV personalities travelling long distances reaching each household slightly distorted). “
